Is there any free analysis software like simbeor to calculate and analysis via impedance ??
robertferanec , 10-03-2022, 06:55 AM
Here is a link where diff pair via impedance is explained in the free Saturn PCB toolkint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJCRrEf_IH8&t=2579s

But I don't know anything else. Maybe someone else does?

The question is, how good are the free tools?
Owners the paid tools also often have expensive equipement to to do measurements and verify the results. They will report back results for fixes or want their money back.
Users of free tools often are not able to measure correctly and therefore cannot even compare results.
Then again, if nobody starts to use the free tools, we will never know any shortcomings.

One tool I heard of that may be able to do it is elmer ( https://www.csc.fi/web/elmer ) and OpenEMS https://openems.de/start/index.php

You can find some software (i will add some examples later) but the best way for me is demanding it from manufacturer. Just send your stack up and wait them to respond. Even in case using a program when it's time for manufacturing i would ask my manufacturer for impedance so the line widths and air gaps.

you can check this: https://www.pcbway.com/pcb_prototype...alculator.html

By the way lastly solar (si9000) and PCB Toolkit are the most commen in usage but if you get any chance to practice them you will see that somehow they are not greatly equal in outcome.

nothing wrong with saturn pcb toolkit!! works fine.. its math.... that does not change.. some payed tools have better options..but the math is still the same

@qdrives I think Ken actually made some PCBs (and also simulations) to compare them with the results of his Saturn PCB Toolkit calculator. Of course, these are not 3D field software calculations, but they are still ok to work with.

@robertferanec With Ken you mean Kenneth Wood I assume? Well yes, I do think there are real measurements behind it.
My remark was more to the level that if someone want to analyse via impedance the way that the original question was asked, he would want to go beyond the simple/standard.
