ground plane connections

boikhutso , 11-03-2016, 02:08 AM

A question please: In the course videos for the power supply, I have not seen you connect anything to the 2 ground planes.(or am I missing that.)
Is this connection automatic when you choose net for the planes as GND?

If you use a PLANE Layer in Altium, it is a negative layer (plane is what I used in the course video). It means, the "empty" space has copper by default. When you draw on this layer, you are "removing" copper.

Thanks for the response. I understand. I have got it now. I was more interested in how you make connection to "plane" when placing VIA.
Basically,, if the VIA and the "plane" have the same "net" name then connection is made between the two( or no copper is removed around the via on the plane).

It is done automatically based on the plane net and VIA net.
