BOM for x pcs of PCBs

Tueftler , 05-21-2025, 03:35 PM
Hi there.
Is there no way to generate a BOM in AD for a specific number of PCBs?
For example: I have to build 70pcs. So i would like to have a BOM for these amount. Without using Excel.
I'm just wondering, that this is not integrated by now.

Greetings!

u can tho it is hacky
Sniper2 , 05-21-2025, 05:08 PM
make a pannel with 70 PCB and then export BOM from that

@Tueftler

Yes, that would be possible. But its not as handy as Excel are 😉
Strange that Altium have not include that feature in the past
Sniper2 , 05-21-2025, 07:06 PM
yea
Sniper2 , 05-21-2025, 07:07 PM
BTW KiCAD has ray traceing rendering while altium does not
Sniper2 , 05-21-2025, 07:07 PM
LOL yea it is true
Tueftler , 05-22-2025, 12:38 PM
@Sniper2
The rendering engine is okay for me.
But (for example) KiCAD don't have a collision check between devices. You can move a small resistor under a chip and the DRC don't show it 😉
But, it's a hot competitor for Altium, that's right

Maybe with Active BoM

I think there is a feature like that
Robert Feranec , 05-22-2025, 01:33 PM
Yes, it is possible in BOM properties and parameters one of the fields is number of boards.
Robert Feranec , 05-22-2025, 01:34 PM
For example I often use it to see price for 1000pcs
Tueftler , 05-22-2025, 04:37 PM
Hi.
Maybe you think the same as @Robert Feranec [thx for the vids 😉 ]

The "Production quantity" change only total pricing, but the quantity per part does not change.

A BOM is for a single 'board'. Like @Sniper2 stated you can make a production panel and get the BOM for that, but then the production panel is your 'board'.
Tueftler , 05-23-2025, 06:41 PM
It's strange that it was implemented this way. It only works if you use Altium to create the panel. So I still have to use Excel.
QDrives , 05-23-2025, 07:35 PM
It is not strange. That is how every BOM works. Altium, other EDA, mechanical, etc. it does not matter. The BOM is for a 'single' product.
You do not want to change the BOM every time when the purchase department orders in different quantity do you?
Tueftler , 05-23-2025, 08:05 PM
But it would be an easy step to multiply the data for the amount of pcbs.

For sure, i can export it to excel and change that sheet for all the orders **of this revision** in the future - Export a new Sheet and do the calculations for each revision and so on.
But the smarter way would be to define it in Altium itself.
QDrives , 05-23-2025, 08:28 PM
Again, no, it is not smart to do it in Altium itself. Especially not in Altium itself as that 'changes' the design (project file).
But if you want to make it easy for yourself (**untested**):
Make an Excel template -- You should already have one.
Have the column "quantity" that is the quantity of parts per board.
Mark a field that can be set to the quantity of boards.
Add a column after that that has the quantity per board * quantity of boards.
Export to that template and fill in the quantities of boards you want.
Tueftler , 05-23-2025, 08:35 PM
Yes, I know that this would be a possibility.
Thank you.

A column for "qty/Board" and one for "qty/order" would do the trick 😉
But it's okay. I thought the possibility might exist somewhere.
