Return path crossing

Roomi#0787 , 02-17-2024, 01:18 AM
A hypothetical question.
For a high speed design, If I use both side components placement and use a single ground plane layer for return path, therefore the return path of different blocks/bus may cross each other. Will it create interference or cross talk ?

Simple answer: yes, you get cross talk.
But if you want to know if that cross talk will be a problem, that is whole different set of answers.

the high speed currents will only travel at the surface of the ground plane - look for skin depth. so for high speed you can have currents on the top side of GND plane and other currents on bottom side of the same GND plane travelling different directions. This may help https://youtu.be/vrt3lL5gEb0
