Inquiries on hardware design

ahernandez , 10-11-2022, 02:57 AM
Hi! I'm trying to begin designing PCBs and I was wondering about a book to learn the basics, mostly theoretically, but I'm open to anything to help me begin. I've taken the initiation course on FEDEVEL, but I wanted to learn something more in deep about why to put this capacitor or this resistor here and there, what are decoupling capacitors, bypass capacitors, why should I put them on a design, etc., apart from the design guidelines from the manufacturers. Any advice will be appreciated! Thank you! Regards.

I have created a video on similar topic some time ago: https://youtu.be/i8TLB34p_qo

About the capacitors, I highly recommend to watch my videos with guests: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...Aq6ft6r4f_1Ub_

But to make it "simple", here is my playlist about decoupling: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...uvkR_TjpnF1Z7f

Hi,
Here are some good books to begin with:
- Signal Integrity and Power Integrity (3rd edition) by Eric Bogatin - This book explains the fundamentals of all signal integrity aspects and power integrity (basic concepts) in a very easy to understand way.
- Right the First Time (volumes I and II) by Lee Ritchey - These books explain signal integrity, power integrity, and PCB design and fabrication.

The above three books are a must have for any board designer.

Hope this helps!
