Mixed-Signal Hardware Design with KiCad - Course

wm , 12-24-2024, 04:37 PM
Hi all, is anyone going through this course by @Phil?

I'm having problems with KiCad's DRC. It keeps saying "Footprint does not match copy in library".

Hi wm,
I'm also took a course "Mixed-Signal Hardware Design with KiCad".
Week ago I have raised similar question to Phil. He sent me a footprint files.

Maybe these files can help you to solve a problem.

Thanks for the reply Denis. I've noticed that the footprint and library have different names for the same pad - for the usb connector. This is why i'm getting a warning, but don't know how to change it.
Denis , 12-25-2024, 09:31 PM
Here is a footprint assigned for USB type C in my scheme. I guess the standard one is used.

Thanks Denis. Have you reached the DRC stage, after PCB routing? That footprint needs to be edited.
Denis , 12-26-2024, 12:10 PM
Yes. I have reached to the DRC stage. I managed to resolve part of the errors.
The remaining one are on the screenshot.
I have not changed any footprint so far.
Which archive did you use? "MixSigCourse-A-KiCad6-Files.rar" or "MixSigCourse-B-KiCad7-Files.zip".
I'm using the second one.
wm , 12-26-2024, 01:53 PM
i used MixSigCourse-A-KiCad6-Files.rar. For the "unresolved text variable", change {REF} to {REFERENCE}. looks like we're having the same issue with the others
Denis , 12-26-2024, 01:59 PM
Thank you

Hi Denis. to remove the footprint warnings for u303 and u400, i created a new vssop-10 with the footprint wizard - following @Phil's example in lesson 8. i copied and pasted the usb footprint to a new footprint. But now have an error where KiCad is expecting the usb footprint to be through-hole because of the s1 holes.
Denis , 12-27-2024, 10:07 AM
Hi wm,
I'm not sure if the solution I did is correct.
In the schematic editor, I selected a components with footprint type error and changes it's type in the footprint properties dialog
wm , 12-27-2024, 11:50 AM
alright, are you getting any warnings / errors after a DRC? when i change its type i get a warning of footprint mismatch
Denis , 12-27-2024, 01:23 PM
I see the same warning. It is not critical I guess.
wm , 12-27-2024, 01:39 PM
what are your thoughts, continue to the next step even with the warning? it's my first pcb design
Denis , 12-27-2024, 02:07 PM
I guess it worth to continue to the next step.
