good tip makes difference - for example when I used JBC tip on my cheap FNIRSI USB-C soldering iron it makes difference (they look the same, but they are not), but it is never as good as my Weller with bigger tip and much better thermal characteristics. I tried to check T12 on internet, but there are many types - most of them is not a very big one, so I would not be surprised with performance when working with power planes. Also, as @QDrives mentioned - in some cases the problem may be PCB itself and it may be hard to solder it even with a good soldering station.
