About shielding pins on connector in Altium
mulfycrowh , 10-30-2020, 11:44 AM
Hi everyone,
I downloaded this footprint from Digikey.
The question is about these shielding pins that are through hole ones and rectangular.
As you can see, each pin involves 3 pads on the footprint. For example, S1, S1_H1, S1_H2.
What should I write on the schematic for each one of these pins?
If I place S1, I've got an error: S1 unknown.
Thanks for help.

Hi @mulfycrowh
By selecting all of them, you can give a single name under the inspector tab.
Of course, if you are going to connect all of them to the same point, for example ground.

Thanks for reply.
Why S1 is unknown?

Hi @mulfycrowh.
Can you explain exactly the error you received?
If the message in the schema section says that the s1 pin is unknown as an error, it may be because there is no pin named S1 in the footprint.
As I mentioned in the previous answer, you can give the same name to all pins in one move and try it that way.

Hi @suleymancskn
As you can see on the schematic, I have pins S13 and S13_H1.
These pins are also on the footprint.
It is not possible to route any track from or to these pads.
I do not understand.

Hi @mulfycrowh
Here's what you do
remove those S13 and S13_H1 pins from schematic and add one called S1
Next go to your footprint and rename all those shielding pins to S1

Try to rename the pins in symbol and in footprint (just use some new names to see if that will fix the issue). Maybe there is a special character or something(?)
PS: I always name every single pad with different name. The same pin name may work in Altium, but when your design needs to be imported to a different tool, some tools do not support pins with the same names and it will cause errors.
