SFP+ interface

Sniper2 , 07-15-2024, 06:03 PM
So i was thinking of using one but there is a HUGE lack of documentation out there, or i simply cant find it.
Yea i know i need a SFP connector and a SFP cage around it .

Like how am i supposed to link my MAC s RMII/RGMII to the SFP s TX/RX +- ?
Yea o know i need a chip but how can i find one? or how they are called?
PS if i have a FPGA/SoC can i connect directly through SeRDES or something like that?
PPS this is more like a learning project/question so throughput is not that important but if i decide to go wit it i will want at least 1Gb/s ( i am not sure if there are modules that are slower then this )

Does this help: https://www.10gtek.com/storage/web-v2-files/pdf/SFF-8431-(SFP+%20MSA).pdf

more or less
Sniper2 , 07-15-2024, 08:29 PM
now i know it is SFi / serdes
Sniper2 , 07-16-2024, 03:28 PM
So effectively I need serdes or something that outputs that ot sfi
Sniper2 , 07-16-2024, 03:29 PM
On mouser I am having a hard time finding sfi but serdes is obtainable......
QDrives , 07-16-2024, 08:27 PM
If I look at this datasheet https://nl.mouser.com/datasheet/2/1116/DS00000082_V1_3_APSP31HM3xDL10_20200604-1949306.pdf I would think that SGMII is the 'protocol' that the SerDes output of your FPGA should generate.
Sniper2 , 07-16-2024, 08:52 PM
maybe
Sniper2 , 07-16-2024, 08:52 PM
SGMII may be a type of serdes
Sniper2 , 07-16-2024, 08:54 PM
it is
Sniper2 , 07-16-2024, 08:55 PM
and it would make sense but no where it writes clearly and we can just assume

From what I know, SerDes is just a Serialize + Deserialize interface on FPGAs. I am not a FPGA specialist.
SGMII I assume, is a serial version of RGMII.
With electric wire (CAT6) there are multiple voltage levels. With optical, there is just on/off. No need for parallel data transport.
